I am one of the original HRRC members since inception (March 2008). Prior to joining the club, I’d never run in a race before. Now I run at least one race a month; mostly 5Ks, some 5 miles, and 1 ½ Marathon (so far). Since running in my first 5K, my times have improved from a high of 36+ minutes to a PR of 27+ minutes.
I’ve been struggling with pre- and post-run nutrition for quite some time. Prior to a run, speed work, or other training; if I eat too much, I feel horrible and if I eat too little, then I don’t have the energy to run long or fast. After a run, my stomach is typically too upset to eat much. I’ve been struggling to find the “happy” medium to not only maintain my current level of running, but in order to run longer, to run faster and to feel good both during and after any workout. That’s where Max Muscle comes in. I stopped in for a body composition, and to discuss my goals, and they pointed out that my current eating habits are very high in protein, but very low in carbohydrates. In order to achieve a better nutritional balance for optimal running performance, I am now using Xtinguisher for pre-run/workout nutrition. I’m also supplementing my normal eating habits with ISO Extreme Advanced Whey Protein, GlutaMatrix (Advanced Glutamine Complex), and XTR (Xtreme Training Recovery) products. While it’s only been two weeks since I’ve started using these products, I’ve already noticed a difference. On my first 7 mile run up Waterton Canyon (out and back) this past weekend, I didn’t even notice that it was uphill until I turned around to head back to the starting point. In fact, I had been surprised at how flat it was (I thought) on the way out.
With the assistance of Max Muscle, I’m hoping that my current 5K PR will be the norm for me. I hope to keep chipping away at that PR, and to be able to keep up with the younger runners in the Highlands Ranch Running Club. Look out guys, I’ll be right behind you!
